About Wheelgate Country Guest House
Wheelgate is a charming 17th century farmhouse with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Situated in the peaceful hamlet of Little Arrow, just to the south of Coniston, the house is surrounded by our enchanting award-winning gardens.


Welcome


Entering the front door into the lounge, you immediately feel at home; the oak beams and panelling, low ceilings and slate fireplace combine to give a warm, welcoming feeling that is the essence of Wheelgate.
Relax

The intimate and cosy bar is ideal for a peaceful drink, or you can unwind after a long day with a glass of complimentary sherry in the lounge, with its fresh flowers and, on cooler evenings, a crackling log fire.
Sleep

Our five thoughtfully-designed bedrooms include a four-poster and a king-size or twin-bedded room. All are en-suite with showers, and have colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer and radio alarm clock.

Eat

The highly-acclaimed Wheelgate Breakfast caters for all tastes and appetites, and uses home-made and locally-sourced produce whenever possible. Choose from a tempting selection of cereals, yogurts, juice and fresh fruit. The Wheelgate Grill is freshly prepared to order and features home-made Cumberland sausage and home-cured bacon from Melville Tyson (our local butcher), and of course local free-range eggs. For the hungry the Grill makes a superb start to the day, but if you prefer something lighter we also offer Scottish smoked salmon with scrambled egg, natural smoked haddock with a poached egg, or a Manx kipper. There is always plenty of hot toast made with our delicious home-made bread, and a variety of our own home-made preserves.

If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know when you book and we will try our best to accommodate them.

Explore
For those interested in walking, cycling or visiting local attractions and beauty spots, we are happy to lend guide books and maps of the area, and if you are unfortunate enough to get caught out by the Lakeland weather we have a utility room for drying wet coats and boots.

Treat yourself

For complete rest and relaxation we also offer a visit to the exclusive Langdale Country Club, with free use of the swimming pool, steam room, spa bath and gym. Other Club facilities such as squash courts and beauty treatments are available at members’ prices. The Club also boasts an excellent restaurant and café-bar.
